- October 13, 2009: NCSA Cybersecurity funded to develop cybersecurity plan for GENI. Adam Slagell and Von Welch are part of the latest round of GENI funding to develop an operational security plan for the NSF GENI project.
- October 13, 2009: We're hiring visiting research programmers. Search closes October 27 (extended from October 9).
- April 2, 2009: The Observatory Middleware Framework (OMF) project is a collaboration between the Monterey Bay Research Institute (MBARI) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois. In April 2009, OMF reached a major project milestone with a demonstration at INGRID 2009 in Sardinia, Italy.
- March 26, 2009: CSD projects among both NCSA and Globus project candidates for the Google Summer of Code projects. (CSD projects in Globus and NCSA.)
- February 23, 2009: MyProxy passes independent vulnerability assessment
- January 27, 2009: Randy Butler and Von Welch interviewed on Homeland Security for Illinois Alumni Mind Over Matter article.
- January 14, 2009: During a conference at Fordham University, NCSA's Jim Barlow described how the center's staff successfully collaborated with the FBI to trace and bring to justice a teen-ager hacker who had infiltrated the TeraGrid.
2008
- September 26, 2008: GridShib 0.6.1 has been released. Both GridShib SAML Tools v0.5.0 and GridShib for GT v0.6.1 will be included in a TeraGrid Capability Kit to supplement the Coordinated TeraGrid Software and Services (CTSS) stack.
- August 25, 2008: WDWS Newsmakers Podcast with NCSA Cybersecurity Directorate co-leads Randy Butler and Von Welch
- August 20, 2008: NCSA makes secure group email services available to interested user communities.

- May 11, 2008: CSD News Feature: Critical inquiry. FBI agents came to NCSA in April to participate in RCAT 2008.
- April 30, 2008: GridShib for Globus Toolkit v.0.6.0 has been released. The release is the culmination of a 20-month effort to bring SAML-based attribute push to X.509-based Grids.
- April 24, 2008: Secure Email List Services (SELS) 0.6.1 has been released.] SELS is open-source software for creating and developing secure email list services for user communities, compatible with several commonly-used email clients.
- January 14, 2008: official press release on CyberTrust award with ITI.
2007
- October 12, 2007: Secure Email List Services (SELS) 0.4 released. Many new features.
- October 2, 2007: Cybersecurity researchers from NCSA and the University of Illinois Computer Science Department have received a NSF Cybertrust Award to further their work on attribute-based messaging.
- September 24, 2007: NCSA, in collaboration with the FBI, receives an award from the Department of Justice titled "Enabling Initial Computer Investigation by Non-Expert Law Enforcement Personnel". This project will develop capabilities to carry out a digital investigation of a live Windows system.
- September 1, 2007: NCSA receives $500K from the National Science Foundation for the project titled "Observatory Middleware Framework" to develop governance capabilities within an Enterprise Security Bus in support of earth observatories.
- June 15, 2007: We are hiring for NCDIR.
- June 13, 2007: NCSA receives $1.5M from FBI to form the National Center for Digital Intrusion Response to enhance the capabilities of the FBI to response to and investigate cyberintrusions.
