  • October 13, 2009: NCSA Cybersecurity funded to develop cybersecurity plan for GENI. Adam Slagell and Von Welch are part of the latest round of GENI funding to develop an operational security plan for the NSF GENI project.
  • April 2, 2009: The Observatory Middleware Framework (OMF) project is a collaboration between the Monterey Bay Research Institute (MBARI) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois. In April 2009, OMF reached a major project milestone with a demonstration at INGRID 2009 in Sardinia, Italy.
  • March 26, 2009: CSD projects among both NCSA and Globus project candidates for the Google Summer of Code projects. (CSD projects in Globus and NCSA.)
  • January 27, 2009: Randy Butler and Von Welch interviewed on Homeland Security for Illinois Alumni Mind Over Matter article.

2008

  • April 24, 2008: Secure Email List Services (SELS) 0.6.1 has been released.] SELS is open-source software for creating and developing secure email list services for user communities, compatible with several commonly-used email clients.

2007

  • October 2, 2007: Cybersecurity researchers from NCSA and the University of Illinois Computer Science Department have received a NSF Cybertrust Award to further their work on attribute-based messaging.
  • September 24, 2007: NCSA, in collaboration with the FBI, receives an award from the Department of Justice titled "Enabling Initial Computer Investigation by Non-Expert Law Enforcement Personnel". This project will develop capabilities to carry out a digital investigation of a live Windows system.
  • September 1, 2007: NCSA receives $500K from the National Science Foundation for the project titled "Observatory Middleware Framework" to develop governance capabilities within an Enterprise Security Bus in support of earth observatories.
